Approved Mobile Food Units in Smith County
"Mobile Food Units" include pushcarts, roadside vendors, limited package mobile food units, and full-service mobile food units:
- Pushcarts: Self-contained equipment and food on the cart. Examples: hot dogs, shaved ice, nut roasting.
- Roadside Vendors: Commercially processed, packaged frozen foods sold in their original packaging. Examples: frozen steaks, frozen poultry.
- Limited Package Mobile Food Units: Commercially processed, packaged food in its original package. Examples: packaged ice cream, plate lunches.
- Full-Service Mobile Food Units: Unpackaged foods prepared for same-day service, including reheating or preparation without cooking. Examples: pulled pork, sushi, chicken salad.
Central Preparation Facility (CPF):
All mobile food units must operate from a CPF (or "commissary") for daily supplies, cleaning, and servicing. This facility must be a fixed location, not temporary or mobile. All food storage occurs at the CPF when not in operation. A current permit and recent inspection report for the CPF must be submitted with the MFU application to the Environmental Health Department.
