What is Legionnaire's Disease?

Legionnaires' (LEE-juh-nares) Disease is a serious type of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacteria.

People can get sick when they breathe in mist or accidently swallow water into the lungs containing Legionella.

The East Texas region has recently experienced 8 confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease.

As of November 15, 2019, no new cases of Legionnaires' Disease has been identified by our thorough investigations.

The confirmation of these case and the elimination of the four possible cases underwent an extensive investigation led by the NET Health Disease Surveillance Division.

If you live in the Northeast Texas region and have questions about Legionnaires’ disease, please call our Disease Surveillance Division at NET Health at (903) 595 - 1350.
